Highlander is now the latest in the reboot craze. They’ve signed on Justin Lin (Fast and the Furious) to direct and Matt Holloway and Art Marcum (Iron Man) to write the script.
I’m looking forward to seeing lots of good sword play. Several movies lately have set the bar pretty high when it comes to sword play. From Jedi to brides to vampires, we’ve seen a lot of fantastic swordplay. I’m not saying that Christopher Lambert didn’t do a good job, but these days, the fights are generally a little more epic.
Another good thing with a reboot, no TV series. Of all the most retarded things that could have happened, the addition of Duncan was probably the worst one for the series. The major downside of course is the fact that the TV series had a new immortal born every five minutes. How the hell do you get down to only one when they keep adding more? And the TV show comes after the first movie. He already got the prize in the first movie. In the second we got time traveling alien immortals that come from somewhere else, and in the third, an immortal that was “dead” comes back since he was freed from his rocky prison. Where did all the immortals come from in the fourth movie? They were all killed already. I could understand keeping it as a separate franchise that never meet up, ever. But by making the piece of shit that was End Game, they ruined the series. I’m not even going to talk about the fifth movie. I had the unfortunate experience of flipping the channel to it by accident, wasn’t impressed in the least.
As far as downsides, well, there is of course The Fast and the Furious. I really don’t want to see Highlander turned into pretty people and fast cars. The second downside would of course be the fact that there won’t be any Queen. Sure they could just reuse the original sound track, but if you are rebooting the series, you should get new music, but who could compare to Queen?
