Knowledge that I have more money than I previously thought is a dangerous thing to me.  You see, in my mind, I already spent that money, so when I find out that I still have it, I figure that I can spend it on something else.  I mean, I’ve already budgeted myself so that I don’t need it.  I’ve determined that I don’t need this money for anything important, and as such, I could spend it on something frivolous that I may want.

For instance, let’s say I wanted to buy a treasure chest full of pirate booty, what’s to stop me?  Not only do I then get to roll around in gold coins like I’ve always wanted, but I also get a nice looking pirate treasure chest to store them in.  Plus, frivolously spending money can only help the economy, right?  There is absolutely no downside to this.  Of course, I may look back some day when I’m about 80 years old and wonder when I’m going to be able to retire, but I’ll worry about that later…
