Thinking of making a little DIY external hard disk enclosure.  I figured once I find my dremel, I could get some sheet metal and make one.  I have a Bafo hard disk enclosure now, but the fan is dead in it, and it’s kinda beat up.  I was thinking that I could just snag the IDE controller from it and stick it in the new case.  The problem however, would be that I don’t have a power cable for it.  I have no clue where it wound up between my various moves over the years…

No problem though, right, I can just email the company and ask what a new power cord costs.  If it’s less that the whole thing then just order it.  Well, I sent that email about two weeks ago.  Today I received this:

Dear Taiwanese websites and companies, if you’re website is in english, and you’re contact form is in english, then you should reply in english.  Right away, I’m a little annoyed.  I’m offering this company money, and they send me an email full of weird little squiggley lines.  There isn’t a link in this email, and it’s not long, so I’m left thinking that it’s an email telling me that no, I can’t buy a power cord.  Just to be safe however, I hop over to babelfish and translate it.

Turns out, it’s a read receipt.  A second read receipt to be exact.  I already received one two weeks ago stating that it was read, now I received another, stating that it was read.  I guess that’s better than receiving one stating that it was deleted without being read, but still, what are they waiting on?  Trying to figure out how to fill the cord with lead first?

I think I may just be going somewhere else and get a whole new enclosure.  Unless of course someone knows where I can just get a USB IDE controller that is…

That's actually pretty cool. Only problem would be that you can't attach a master and slave. On the upside, with USB, I don't have to worry about all that master slave business I just put a little hub or squid in it and add drives as needed. On the down side, lots of power cables…
