I tend to dream a lot. Over the years, I have had some crazy dreams. There are a couple of themes that tend to reoccur for me.
For instance, in my dreams, I can breathe under water. I will go swimming, and dive under, and have no difficulty breathing. It’s like I’m swimming in air. No fear of drowning, no problems when going in or out of water. It’s just air that I can swim through. I normally won’t even notice that I’m doing it until later in the dream or even after I’ve woken up.
Another is the ability to see through my eye lids. I close my eyes, and I can still see. Normally I relate this to some kind of super power like psychic ability, and unlike the underwater breathing, it tends to suprise me. Sometimes it’s not a very clear picture, other times, there is no difference between eyes open and eyes closed.
Third item, at least on the good side of reoccurring items, would be walking on air. I tend to have, or at least have had, the ability to simply walk like I’m going up or down steps, and I proceed to walk up or down in the air. Sometimes, very rarely, I would get stuck, but normally, I just walk around in the air. Along those lines, I would also swim through the air as well. This was normally seen as more scientific, than supernatural in my dreams. I would be putting my feet down with just enough force and speed to be able to walk on the air, no capes or anything like that, just knowing how to do it.
As to the bad things that would generally happen in dreams. I would find myself unable to run. I would need ot go somewhere, and my legs just wouldn’t move fast enough. If I wanted to punch, I can’t move my arms with enough speed. It’s like my body was slowed down but my mind stays at the normal speed.
I’ve faced everything from giants to dinosaurs to radioactive crickets to a horde of zombies. Monsters tend to be in my dreams quite a bit. Sometimes it’s quite horrific, other times rather silly.
A lot of dreams take place in my parent’s house, only it’s never really my house. It may be at the lake by my house(note, there is no lake) or in the secret tunnels in my parent’s house (note again, no secret tunnels) or in the old crumbling wing that is full of cat walks and cobwebs (do I really need to say it again?)
As far as the freaky dreams go, I had one where I was in the elementary school and had to fight Stripe from Gremlins, and watched a wizard in a tub of boiling blood fight a giant. The blood spilled and flooded the school and anybody who touched it was shrunk by it’s magic.
I had another where my family (but it wasn’t really my family) had a weird ceremony with a skull where they dumped it in the lake in the back yard (no lake, see above) and my sister and I jumped in the lake to swim around. The skull came to life and swam around on it’s own, we had to hide from it.
Those were probably to two most vividly remembered dreams from my childhood.
More recently I had a dream where I was in a field with an endless army of zombies attacking me. I wished that I had some way to fight back, and I found a Japanese style gazebo, just stacked full of swords. This was probably one of the funnest dreams that I ever had. The dream ended whith me leaving the gazebo to go into a room with barrels full of Trioxin, I met one of my old friends. It was at this point that the scene change to that of the HUD from Goldeneye. He shot me with a rocket, I came back as a zombie, shot him with a rocket, he came back because he was a zombie and shot me, this went on about five minutes before I woke up.
The other recent dream that I had was where I was shopping in a large mall, when dinosaurs attacked. Many many dinosaurs. At one point, I was pursued by a group of deinonychus into the malls heavy weapons store. I was able to get a large rifle off the wall, however, for some reason that slips my mind, I was unable to use it. The first of the deinonychus approached me, it’s terrible claw clicking on the ground, when a plan formulated in my head. I pointed out the door and yelled, “Holy Crap! Sale on cargo pants at the Gap!” The dinosaur paused, looked at the distant Gap, then at me, then sprinted down the isle and off to purchase cargo pants. I repeated this with several other dinosaurs until I was able to escape.
Some other weird things that have happened in dreams that I didn’t think should be able to happen. I have died in dreams. Literally, I died, I didn’t wake up just before I hit ground. I didn’t wake up just before the bullets hit me. I woke up afterwards, when I had died. I also can read. Not always, but I will make a point to read things. I will see books, and I will read the titles, or I will read headlines on news papers.
